Nuprodx,
Inc was founded in San Francisco, California in 1998
by Bruce Hammer, a former professional motorcycle racer,
cabinet/furniture maker, architect and 25-year wheelchair
user.
Nuprodx designs and manufactures high
quality durable medical equipment for people with disabilities.
We have complete manufacturing capabilities in northern
California, including computerized machining, welding,
and fabricating. Our focus is on bathroom equipment,
such as bath benches, shower chairs, and raised toilet
seats that are strong and stable for everyday home
use and lightweight and portable for travel.
Personal History
Throughout the late 70s Bruce
Hammer juggled two careers: cabinet/furniture making
and motorcycle
racing. In 1980 his successful racing career was highlighted
by securing sponsorship from Chevron USA and US Suzuki. Financial
help from these companies allowed him to focus on racing
which resulted in his earning the rank of number-two
professional motorcycle roadracer in the United States.
In 1981 he co-founded Team
Hammer, 13-time national champions.
Bruces
life took a major turn when he crashed while competing
for Team Hammer, at an American Motorcyclist Association
national championship race in 1982. He broke his neck
at the sixth/seventh cervical vertebra and became a
quadriplegic. After a four-month stay in a southern
California rehab hospital he rejoined the real world
and quickly realized how difficult it is to travel
with a disability. His first attempt at a portable
shower chair was to simply cut apart a standard tub
transfer bench and to put the pieces in a big suitcase.
The multiCHAIR series is the result of almost 20 years
of experience gained from his determination to make
innovative products with help from professional engineers
and machinists.
